House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) tweeted Wednesday that he didn’t care how the Supreme Court’s draft opinion on Roe vs. Wade was leaked, despite being a violation unprecedented in the modern history of the Supreme Court.
“I don’t care how the draft got leaked. That’s a sideshow,” he tweeted, in comments reminiscent of his efforts to protect the identity of the leaker of former President Donald Trump’s classified call with the Ukrainian president.
“What matters to me is that a small number of conservative justices, who lied about their plans to the Senate, are trying to deprive millions of women of reproductive care. Encoding Roe is not enough. We must widen the court,” she tweeted.

Schiff, during Trump’s impeachment hearings, tried to interfere with the Republicans’ questioning of the leaker’s identity. Lawyers for the leakers also argued that his identity is “irrelevant.”
Schiff’s tweet came as speculation mounted about the identity of the leaker of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion. Several names have begun to float on social networks, including the secretaries of liberal judges.
Democrats are using the leaked draft to galvanize Democratic voters in the upcoming midterm elections amid declining support for President Joe Biden.
Some Democrats are using it to instill fear, like Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), another member of the Intelligence Committee, who argued that Republicans would try to ban “interracial marriage” next.
Republicans won’t stop with an abortion ban. They want to ban interracial marriage. Do you want to save that? Well then you should probably vote. https://t.co/MRytdsjUBP

Republicans have called for an investigation into the leak, and Chief Justice John Roberts said in a statement that he has directed the court’s bailiff to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.
