Dogecoin, the world’s first dog-themed meme coin, has etched an indelible mark in the annals of cryptocurrency history by successfully sending the first DOGE transaction without the use of the internet, thanks to RadioDoge.

The Dogecoin Foundation core development team announced that a Doge transaction was successfully sent 100 miles from its origin via radio transmission using a protocol called RadioDoge and with the help of the Starlink satellite network. This development means that it is now possible to process transactions in remote areas, especially in places where traditional Internet infrastructure is limited, if not non-existent.

Dogecoin Foundation developer Michi Lumin shared the news on Twitter on Friday detailing the first transaction involving sending “4.2069 dogecoin” tokens to “100 miles” using RadioDoge and “just libdogecoin, radio and ultimately relayed to the mainnet in the other end via Starlink.” Libdogecoin is a C-based library of Dogecoin protocols that serve as the building blocks for various DOGE projects.

The transaction was heard from over 800 miles away, according to Dogecoin Foundation Director Timothy Stebbing. RadioDoge is the brainchild of the Dogecoin Foundation, which focuses on using low-cost radios technology (HF/LoRaWAN) with the help of the Starlink satellite to deliver affordable, large-scale access to the dog-themed meme coin “for people beyond the reach of traditional Internet infrastructure.”

A few days ago, the team installed the Radio Doge Regional Hub, which served as a testing ground for this new generation technology. the radio duke draft together with LibDogecoin, “these are exciting first steps towards achieving the goal of making Dogecoin an unstoppable financial vehicle, empowering financial freedom from power structures and providing a medium of exchange for future generations.”

However, it is worth noting that Dogecoin is not the first cryptocurrency to send transactions over radio waves. Technological concepts like ham radios, mesh networks, and portable antennas have allowed people to complete Bitcoin transactions even without internet access.

Dogecoin was trading down 4.92% at $0.1281, on 24-hour volume of $16,991,032,651, as of 8:50 p.m. ET on Sunday, according to data from COinMarketCap.
