The 2022 NFL Draft has officially come to an end, but the roster creation process is far from complete. After the seventh rounds of the draft, chaos ensues as undrafted free agency is officially underway.
Any draft-eligible player who was not selected in all 262 picks can now sign with any team. While the draft picks get four-year contracts, the UDFA are eligible to sign a three-year deal. They hit free agency a year earlier than the draft picks, but it’s worth noting that free agency after three seasons of service time is restricted, compared to unrestricted free agency after four seasons.
The rest of Saturday and the week ahead will be chaotic as players and teams scramble to close deals. The busiest stretch is Saturday, but plenty of players will sign before the next rookie minicamps. It’s hard to keep track of all the signatures, so we’ll point you to the experts in the field.
