The zombie genre has dwindled over the years, but the likes of dying light 2 and, perhaps to a lesser extent, Back 4 Blood they have shown that it still has its place in gaming. interactive bohemia DayZ is another example of something that retains the idea of having a world infested with the creeping dead. With a map as big as the likes of elden ringthe open-world survival game is expansive and pretty brutal, and recent numbers show it’s still popular.
As spotted by PCGamesN, the stats on SteamCharts.com show that DayZ he has broken his record for all-time top players. At the time of writing, the new record stands at 58,240 players, with around 23,000 currently playing. The last time he passed the 50,000 mark was in January of this year. But overall, although it’s mostly showing an increase in numbers, he hasn’t really made it into the high 40,000 region until recently.
It’s unclear why there has been such an increase in players, as figures for March show there has been an increase of around 15,000 in the last 30 days, but it could be due to the latest patch. In the past week, DayZ released the Walpurgis Night update, which came with a number of changes and additions. Chief among these was the revival of some witch accessories, such as hats and a cauldron, to celebrate the Christian tradition of scaring witches.
The update also came with some new DayZ weapons In this case, some firearms were added to the game, such as the CR-550 Savanna bolt-action rifle, a .308 Longhorn pistol, and a 9mm P1. Many of those who have played the game know the importance of being able to get hold of weapons. They will also know the scarcity that makes the game much harder than others, so players may succumb to scratches from zombies, starvation, disease, or a broken bone.
Given the DayZ is also one of the most popular open world survival games, perhaps not too surprisingly it has seen an increase in the number of players. He prefers a slightly more realistic take on the zombie apocalypse trope, where just finding a small can of tuna or a fresh zucchini can mean the difference between life and death. It can be a tough world to survive in, but the 58,000+ fans show that it’s possible to make a successful game even though the Walking Dead genre cliché isn’t as big as it once was.
